Back in June, I was inspired to start writing poetry, as a result of a competition by the Irish Writers’ Centre. I was proud of my entry, but unfortunately it won’t be featuring in their anthology.

So instead, it gets featured here. Yes, none other than on darraghobradain.ie – oh, the honour!

You can read it here.

I’m on a bit of a creative pause from poetry at the moment. I tried sitting down and writing something after witnessing a beautiful act of kindness at work, but when I wrote the first few lines, I knew it wasn’t going anywhere. Maybe because to date, my poetry has had something of a personal element to it. This new idea wasn’t about me, but rather something independent of me. I want to continue writing poetry but I also want to branch out of my comfort zone. So the next time I’m inspired by something that’s nothing to do with me, I’ll give it another go. Maybe the next one won’t have the minimalist style of my current poems, maybe it will. Let’s see what happens!

As for the featured image of the banjo head – this is the banjo I sold a few weeks ago. I had it for 28 years, but it wasn’t getting played as often as it should have. I’m happy to report that it’s getting a lot of action now! So, new beginnings, cutting things loose, and fine-tuning. Take your pick.
